About Us

The Memphis Thoroughbreds was established in February of 1999 by Memphian Tommy Washington. While the Thoroughbreds were founded and practice in Memphis, the club is open to individuals in neighboring cities, counties, and states willing to meet qualifications for joining the Thoroughbreds. It has been the continuous goal of the Thoroughbreds to provide long lasting life skills through strict instruction and guidance. Young Thoroughbreds will be taught and reminded daily of the importance of sound decision making and accountability. Through mentoring, Shelby County student athletes will learn key attributes such conflict resolution and self-worth, which ultimately deters them from gang activity and prevents early unplanned childhood pregnancies. Each family will be provided with the resources of mental health, food assistance, financial planning, and emotional support.
