The Memphis Thoroughbreds Track Club, Inc. (MTTC) is a 501(c) (3) organization is established to provide training and education in track and held to at-risk youth.
Mission Statement:
To enrich the spirit, mind, and body of at-risk youth with life skills to aid in the fight
against juvenile obesity and diabetes.
Objectives of Memphis Thoroughbreds Track Club, Inc.: I. Mind, Body and Spirit:
A. Mind: The youth will possess self-discipline while developing a level of maturity and stress relieving techniques.
B. Body: The youth become physically fit through training and they will learn the importance of proper nutrition, staying in shape and maintaining good health.
C. Spirit: It is a proven fact that when children are active and productive, they are more peaceful in social interactions.
II. Mathematics:
The youth will utilize math properties applying them to the art of track and field activities. Geometry, Physics, Multiplication, and even Algebra are to be used in the training of Track & Field athletes.
III. Health:
Becoming a healthy individual is a positive by-product of being an athlete. The youth of today are faced with childhood obesity and childhood diabetes which is on the rise. Staying active, participating in training and track meets, and receiving the knowledge of nutrition and its importance, the youth will be the healthier.
The program will run year-round. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The hours and activities will vary during the summer months. Memphis Thoroughbreds Track Club Inc. will provide mentoring and athletic training to 65 to 70 youth from ages 6 to 18 in grades 1st to 12th. Children will gain the ability to focus and become self-disciplined, self-driven, accountable, and classroom leaders. Student athletes will learn the importance of proper decision making and conflict resolution. The building of a positive self-image that results from recognizing individual achievements is one of the many benefits of the process that will take place after becoming a member of the MTTC. Students will learn the value of teamwork and community service. Our members also learn to develop friendships and encourage their fellow teammates as well as support one another by showing good sportsmanship. MTTC supports international projects abroad that will help underserved communities and families enrich their spirit, mind and body.
